The Electoral Commission (RIK) gave late Friday an approval to the OSCE to monitor the May 11 vote. The representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (ODIHR/OSCE) will thus follow the work of RIK and the bodies in charge of organizing the elections. RIK approves OSCE monitors, talks to Duma reps Some 35 OSCE observers are expected to monitor the RIK activities in Belgrade. The government earlier gave its approval for the move. Also yesterday, Deputy RIK President Dejan Djurdjevic met with the representatives of the Russian Duma, Aleksandr Torshin and Igor Matveyev. The pair announced that the lower house of the Russian parliament will send an accreditation request for the Russian observers at the forthcoming parliamentary and local Serbian elections, RIK said in a statement Saturday. Russian Federation Council Vice Speaker Aleksandr Torshin voiced expectation that the May 11 electoral process will be realized without any incidents.
