After an absence of several years, Otpor activists returned to the streets today in Novi Sad’s main square. Their demonstration today called on the "protection of the ideas of October 5, 2000". Otpor says it's back in business “The coming elections are crucial because the October 5 changes have been curtailed, and there is a danger that we will return to the ways of ten years ago,” Otpor activist Nenad Seguljev said. He said that the project was “neither a student nor national project, simply Otpor.” Seguljev said that with its first demonstration, Otpor wanted to symbolically show its “regret for the big mistake” made eight years ago when it supported Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica “who nowadays reminds us more and more of Slobodan Milosevic." One Beta journalist was arrested during today’s rally. The journalist, Dinko Gruhonjic, first refused to leave the city square, and then refused to show his ID when police officers securing the event asked him to do so. Police then followed their procedure to detain Gruhonjic. He was was soon after released.
