The Blic newspaper writes today that an assassination of war crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic had been planned. The daily writes that the assassination had been planned by former members of the Republic of Srpska (RS) state security services. Daily: Plot to kill war crimes prosecutor Blic quoted a witness questioned by the prosecution, whose name was not given, who was involved with Special Operations Unit Commander Milorad Ulemek. According to Blic, the witness stated that Ulemek had offered to pay him very well for the assassination. The war crimes prosecution confirmed for Blic that there had been threats and warnings that someone wanted to kill Vukcevic, but said that they would divulge no more information for the sake of the ongoing investigation. “We have good cooperation with all the bodies that are investigating the threats to the prosecution,” Prosecution spokesman Bruno Vekaric said. The witness gave the names of two people who had been members of the RS state security services during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and are now labeled as “important links in organized crime.” According to the witness, besides Vukcevic, there had been plans to assassinate two other senior officials of the current Serbian government, Blic writes.
