The DSS and SRS have accused Javier Solana of meddling in the Serbian elections. Education Minister and Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) official Zoran Loncar said that the EU foreign and security policies chief was directly interfering in the elections and Serbia’s internal affairs. DSS, SRS angry, LDP happy with Solana comments “Solana says that he loves Serbia a lot and that he wants to help the Canak, DS, G17 Plus coalition. At the same time, Solana says that he cares about the Serbian elections on May 11 and the constitution of the first NATO state coming into force,” Loncar said. He added that, in so doing, “Solana is directly interfering in the Serbian elections,” and “what is even worse, he is getting involved in Serbia’s internal affairs by supporting the first NATO state’s constitution.” “We’d like to remind Solana that he has damaged Serbia enough already with his decision to bomb our country, and that it would be good for him to refrain now. It would also be important for Solana to say something about war criminals and the trailblazers for creating the first NATO state, Ramush Haradinaj and Hashim Thaci, who killed Serbs in order to trade in human organs,” Loncar berated, wondering whether Solana had anything to say on the matter. Meanwhile, the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) said that Solana was trying to secure a victory for the political forces in Serbia that would recognize Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence. “Solana’s statement in support of the political forces that are fighting against Tomislav Nikolic and the SRS, is the best confirmation of the fact that those who are taking Kosovo from Serbia, those who acquitted Ramush Haradinaj, are today doing all they can to secure an election victory for those people in Serbia who would recognize Kosovo, and would work on the country’s further destruction,” the SRS said in a statement. The SRS says that Solana was the first official to congratulate the creation of the fake state of Kosovo, and adds that this was why “he will use all his power and influence to help the political forces in Serbia that support the break-up of the Serbian nation.” The Radicals added that they would never recognize Solana’s independent Kosovo, adding that Serbia’s citizens would take the decision as to which direction the country should follow in the future. The statement concludes by saying that Serbia can only enter the European Union with Kosovo as an integral part. But the opposition Liberal-Democrats (LDP), led by Cedomir Jovanovic, welcomed the comments made at the European Parliament today, saying that Solana's initiative is yet another proof that the EU wants to help Serbia. At the same time, he said, the signing of the SAA remains central to the LDP campaign. "This initiative adds to the LDP stance", Jovanovic was quoted. "Also, the Hague cooperation problem is an obstacle on Serbia's EU path that must be removed. We are ready to meet our international obligations, to arrest Mladic and Karadzic, as we participate in the future reformist cabinet," he told a news conference in Belgrade Tuesday. "The road to implement this decision will be made easier with the help from Europe, and its readiness to sign this important agreement with Serbia," Jovanovic said.
