Kraljevo's Magnohrom workers were protesting in front of the government headquarters in Belgrade today. They demanded to have their overdue wages paid. After a meeting with prime minister's adviser Slobodan Lalatovic, they decided to end the protest. Kraljevo workers end protest in Belgrade Lalatovic told the workers that the next cabinet session will hear a proposal to set aside RSD 45mn in order to make the payments in three installments. More than a thousand people arrived in 25 buses this morning, asking to meet with the top government official. Magnohrom, a company producing refractory materials, underwent failed privatization recently, when the contract with India's Global Steel was terminated at the end of last year. The state opted for the move after Global Steel persistently refused to honor the provisions of the contract, that included settling of all debts. The Indian company at the same time cut up and sold several furnaces from the factory. The workers' outstanding wages were a part of the obligations Global Steel agreed to undertake as they bought Magnohrom.
