Suspended Serb workers at the Lipljan Correctional Facility have blocked the coordination center building in Gracanica. The blockade occurred after Belgrade officials, specifically the Kosovo Ministry, failed to pay them the money promised for leaving the Kosovo institutions. Prison workers protests in Serb enclave This was confirmed to B92 by one of the protesters, Boban Petrovic. However, Justice Minister Dusan Petrovic, whose ministry is supposed to be paying the wages of the prison workers from Lipljan, said that the ministry was still looking for an appropriate solution. Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardzic recommended that all Serb workers should leave their jobs within the Kosovo institutions as soon as unilateral independence was declared. At the time, Samardzic promised to pay them wages of almost EUR 200 if they left their jobs. However, the promise has changed in the meantime. “At the first meeting, a fortnight ago, Mr. Samardzic said that we would be getting the minimum wage of RSD 16,000 (EUR 200) a month, and normally, for people who do not have a job, that they would have health insurance as well... A fortnight later, he came back with a different story. He now says that we’ll only receive a one-off payment of RSD 11,000 (around EUR 140) and nothing else has been promised,” Petrovic complained. Samardzic said that he was aware that there had been a problem with keeping that promise, but said that it was because of problems at government and ministry level, even though the government had passed a decision regarding the wages.
