Arrests, arms seizure in Kosovo

Three people were arrested on suspicion of helping convicts from the Dubrava prison escape last year. The arrests, carried out by Kosovo police, KPS, took place today in Malisevo and Istok, it was announced in Pristina this afternoon. Arrests, arms seizure in Kosovo The three are also suspected of providing sanctuary for the escaped inmates who were incarcerated for crimes that included terrorism, murder and armed robbery. Some of them were killed in Macedonia last year in a showdown with police there. KPS said that it seized weapons, war equipment, two radio stations, in the homes of the three. According to KPS, the arrests came as part of an investigation into the escape of seven inmates from Dubrava in August 2007, as well as kidnappings and attempted murders in Glogovac and Vucitrn, in which four police officers and one civilian were injured. Also today in Pristina, three more persons were placed under arrest, this time including the director of the Pristina airport, on suspicion of abusing their official positions and committing fraud. The Pristina electronic media quoted the police as saying that the arrested are Slatina airport General Director Afrim Aziri, the airport's procurement chief and the owner of a gas station in Kosovo Polje. The investigation into this case opened seven months ago. The suspects were arrested at the orders of the public prosecutor.
