The dailies today mostly deal with Kosovo, with one story more grisly and worrying than the other. ALO—"Bush lights fuse on gunpowder keg", is about the announcement yesterday from U.S. President George W. Bush that his country would send arms to the Kosovo Albanians. Press: Bush's arms to Kosovo, Del Ponte's book of horrors "[Cooking] oil goes to RSD 145", says that the price hikes in the food sector will continue. "I will no longer be minister", confided outgoing Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic, who is also the leader of the Sandzak Democratic Party, SDP. BORBA—"Election race starts", informs that parties and coalitions have started submitting electoral lists. "Only with UN SC mandate", says that high Russian official not oppose deployment of an EU mission in Kosovo, if it first secures a mandate from the United Nations. BLIC—"Highway concession falls", says that Alpine and Porr, the concessionaires awarded the construction of the Horgos-Pozega highway, are asking for "new concessions" – related to their contractual obligations, that is. "All talks with DS ended", DSS deputy president Aleksandar Popovic explains. The grisly details from Carla Del Ponte's new book also made it to the front page: "Kidnapped Kosovo Serbs had organs removed and sold". VECERENJE NOVOSTI—"America's dangerous game", brings Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's reaction to the Bush arms for Kosovo Albanians announcements. Dobrica Cosic is interviewed under, "Withstand defeat, remember injustice". As for the MPs whose mandates are nearing the end in the dissolved parliament, they have been busy all the same, the daily alleges: "[MPs] spend millions in only four days". "KLA in organ trafficking", more on the Del Ponte book and what she says could be the fate of some 300 missing Kosovo Serbs since 1999. GAZETA—The daily leads with what it sees as the most important news of the day: "Serb prince engaged with Formula 1 owner's daughter". "Russia to annex Serbia!", it then claims, in a piece that says the Russian Duma is considering inviting Serbia to join the CIS. GLAS JAVNOSTI—Lawrence Eagleburger, the former U.S. Ambassador to Belgrade, now, the paper says, John McCain's adviser, is interviewed under, "Independent Kosovo prelude to new war". "USD 3bn price tag", is about the fifth anniversary of the start of the Iraq invasion. DANAS—"Micunovic as symbol of Democratic Party", the newspaper leads with an election campaign story. "Kosovo's partition not even considered," Minister Predrag Bubalo, DSS, says in an interview. KURIR—"Serbia, help", the tabloid interprets what it sees as the cry for help from the Serbs in Kosovo. "Cheek", is about the fact one new bridge in Belgrade will cost EUR 220mn, when the capital needs and could have had four new bridges for the same amount of money. POLITIKA—"Bush's match for Kosovo gunpowder keg", leads the daily. As for the reaction of former KLA leaders, now Kosovo Albanians' political leaders, such as Hashim Thaci, to a series of grave accusations leveled at them by the former chief Hague prosecutor, it is reported under, "Silence against Carla Del Ponte". PRESS—"Kosovo's Mengele!", the tabloid says, and brings the photo of Hashim Thaci, along with the Del Ponte book organ trafficking accusations against his KLA.
