German Ambassador to Belgrade Wolfram Maas says the EU is still offering its help to Serbia. He said, however, that it was troubling that some parties were still blocking the road towards the EU. German ambassador: EU hand still extended to Serbia “Principally, the EU is still extending its hand to Serbia. The people of Serbia realize this and continue, with a majority, to support Serbia’s road towards the EU. Because of this, it is even more troubling that some parties in Serbia, who formally claim to support Serbia’s European integration, are imposing demands that effectively block this process,” Maas told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik. The ambassador said that the issue of Kosovo had not divided the EU, because a majority of member-states recognized its independence. “A little more time is simply necessary for some to make their decision. However, the member-states have decided, without exception, to assume responsibility for Kosovo through the EULEX mission,” he explained. Maas said that Brussels had never questioned the validity of UN Security Council Resolution 1244. “Therefore, there is no reason for conflict between the EU and the UN. The European Union and the United Nations will coordinate the transfer of powers in Kosovo together,” the ambassador assured.
