The Bosnian Islamic Community has asked Belgrade to "stop dividing the Sandzak Muslims.” Reis Mustafa Ceric called on all relevant international organizations to react to the “flagrant violation of Muslims’ human rights in Serbia.” Bosnian IC warns Belgrade not to "interfere" in Sandzak The Islamic Community condemned what it called the “brutal attacks by Serbian police officers on imams and worshippers in Tutin” on March 9, during preparations for a ceremony for the construction of a new madrassa.” “The brutal attacks on the main imam and religious officials in Tutin cannot be excused,” says a statement fully supporting chief mufti of the Islamic Community in Serbia Muamer Zukorlic. The Community called on the government in Belgrade to respect its own law on religious freedoms, as well as the rights of Muslims to deal with their religious problems according to tradition and religious practice. On March 9, clashes broke out in Tutin between members of two opposing groups within the Islamic community that do not recognize each another. The incident took place in the town center where Zukorlic’s supporters were laying the foundation stone for a new madrassa. The Islamic Community of Serbia, the rival organization led by reis-ul-ulema Adem Zilkic claims that the land where the school is to be built is theirs, that the foundation stone has already been laid, and that EUR 30,000 has already been invested in the madrassa.
