A leading LDP official has called Democratic Party of Serbia leader Vojislav Kostunica the double of Slobodan Milosevic. At a rally entitled “It isn’t Finished” in Novi Sad to mark the fifth anniversary of the murder of the late Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, President of the Liberal Democratic Party’s political committee Vesna Pesic said that the Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) had “forced” Kostunica on to the citizens at the September 2000 elections. LDP: Kostunica is Milosevic’s double “Milosevic was indeed confronted with his double, who was an even bigger nationalist than himself, which is why Serbia has never faced up to Milosevic’s nationalist policies,” said Pesic. Film director Milutin Petrovic claimed that Djindjic’s murder had been an attempted “putsch”. Petrovic said that only the direct organizers and perpetrators of the assassination had been sentenced, but that it was still not known who had given those people the orders to kill the prime minister, and that those people were still free today. He said that, in cooperation with playwright Biljana Srbljanovic and the team of B92's Pescanik radio show, he was making a film about the political background behind Djindjic’s murder. President of the LDP’s Regional Committee Djordje Djukic said that Zoran Djindjic was not a realist and pragmatist, as he is generally portrayed, but “a dreamer and idealist.” He said that Djindjic understood Vojvodina’s needs, and that it was the LDP’s goal to return full autonomy to Vojvodina.
