Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt today commented the collapse of the government in Belgrade. The outcome of the early parliamentary elections in Serbia, requested by Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica to be called for May 11, are of "critical importance for the region as a whole, including Kosovo", he said. Bildt: Elections of critical importance for region "I cannot say that Serbian Premier Kostunica's behavior could have been foreseen, but it is obvious that the tension has reached an unbearable point," Bildt said in a statement broadcast by Radio Deutsche Welle, adding that the outcome of the elections will be of "critical importance for the region as a whole, including Kosovo, for the years to come". "The United Nations will have to remain in Kosovo as a buffer between the countries that recognize Kosovo's independence and those that do not," Bildt was also quoted as saying.
