The Serb Radical Party (SRS) will not withdraw its parliamentary resolution on the EU, says deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic. “The SRS cannot take the advice of Boris Tadic, which was given as more of an order, to drop the proposed resolution,” Nikolic said. Nikolic: SRS won’t drop resolution He said that at stake were not party interests, but rather the citizens, state, the Constitution and Serbia’s future. Tadic stated on Thursday that Kosovo was not protected by resolutions, but by resuming European integration, and called on the SRS to withdraw its proposal from parliamentary procedure and put an end to “its false patriotism.” Nikolic said that the SRS wanted an intact Serbia within the EU and could not understand why this would be opposed by EU powers and Tadic, who had taken his oath to the Constitution that had bound him not to suggest that Kosovo was an independent state “via any form of negotiation, agreement or statement.” The SRS deputy leader pointed to the contrasting media coverage of the president’s press conference yesterday, and called on him to clarify whether “Kosovo is a state whose EU accession Serbia will block, or a fake state that Serbia will never recognize.” “This is a conspiracy on the grandest scale. Let’s hear Tadic say whether the Constitution is the fundamental and most important law, and tell us why he is deceiving Serbia’s citizens into thinking he is fighting for Kosovo. Now he’s suggesting that in 15 years time, when we become EU members, we could block Kosovo from joining the EU,” he declared Tomislav Nikolic (FoNet, archive)
