Veton Elshani says that Serb communities in Kosovo are safe despite the lack of Serb officers. The Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesman said that KPS, UNMIK and KFOR special forces had been called on to help with security in Serb communities. KPS official reassures Serb communities He told KIM Radio that the appeal to Serb officers within the KPS to return to their posts would be extended. Elshani said that the positions of the suspended Serb officers in several locations throughout Kosovo would be filled by other officers of Albanian and other nationality, as well as international police. “We are still calling on them to return to duty. We had about 58 police officers there before they decided to not accept the orders coming from HQ, now there are 100. So, there are now about 50 more officers there together with UNMIK police, and if needs be, KFOR officials will react too,“ the KPS spokesman explained. He said that the KPS inspectorate would take its decision on the suspended Serb KPS officers within the next 60 days. The Serb officers left their posts within the KPS, stating that they would only work under the command of UNMIK.
