Halimi happy with Serbian leaders' reaction

Riza Halimi praised the Serbian government's reaction to the unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence. “I am pleasantly surprised by the reaction of the government in Belgrade. The fact that Belgrade did not react to the events in Pristina with violence, but rather with diplomacy, is a new way of dealing with the situation which is encouraging,” Halimi, one of the ethnic Albanian leaders in the Presevo Valley, near the administrative line with Kosovo, said. Halimi happy with Serbian leaders' reaction The leader of the Party for Democratic Actions (PDD), the most influential Albanian party of southern Serbia, also said that the message from Belgrade to Serbs and non-Albanians to remain in Kosovo was a good move. “The message to Serbs and non-Albanians to not move out of Kosovo at this moment is of great importance, because we can all solve the large economic questions together, which represent the biggest problem for all of us,” he said. Halimi said that "as much as Belgrade is intent on opposing the independence proclamation, it would eventually accept the European Union institutions in Kosovo", which would ensure, for both Pristina and Belgrade, “the shortest road toward Brussels.”

The leader of the Party for Democratic Actions (PDD), the most influential Albanian party of southern Serbia, also said that the message from Belgrade to Serbs and non-Albanians to remain in Kosovo was a good move.

“The message to Serbs and non-Albanians to not move out of Kosovo at this moment is of great importance, because we can all solve the large economic questions together, which represent the biggest problem for all of us,” he said.

Halimi said that "as much as Belgrade is intent on opposing the independence proclamation, it would eventually accept the European Union institutions in Kosovo", which would ensure, for both Priština and Belgrade, “the shortest road toward Brussels.”
