Albania's Prime Minister Sali Berisha says Kosovo and Albania will unite once they both join the EU. In an interview to German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Berisha said the authorities in Tirana already have plans to help Kosovo, should Serbia decide to punish its secessionist province with an economic blockade. "Albania and Kosovo united in EU" The Albanian premier also told the newspaper that his country will have assistance in this "from Montenegro and Macedonia". "One of our ports will work around the clock, free of charge, at Kosovo's disposal. Other ports will work in three shifts, if need be. We will also make our airports available if necessary. Macedonia and Montenegro will also help. For this reason the blockade will not be too painful," Berisha was optimistic. He conceded that "for decades there was indeed the option of uniting Kosovo and Albania", but that "50 years of communist dictatorship in Albania led to the Kosovo Albanians having this in mind less and less." Berisha said that he does not see the potential for unification. "Today everyone in Albania wants Kosovo's independence. Tomorrow, we will be united in the EU," he said.
