Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci says Kosovo’s goal is to become a member of the United Nations. “Kosovo has a common agenda with the international authorities and we expect strong international support. The question of Kosovo's status is now outside UN headquarters, but we wish to be members of the UN soon,” Thaci said after a meeting with UNMIK and KFOR chiefs. Thaci: We want UN membership UNMIK chief Joakim Ruecker said that the UN mission did not expect any problems or violence, and expected stability and peace in the coming days and weeks in Kosovo. He said that UNMIK was prepared for every scenario and that all security forces parallel to theirs in Kosovo would be considered illegal. “That is our red line, and we have said this many times,” the UNMIK chief said. KFOR Commander Xavier Bout de Marnhac said that NATO forces would continue to guarantee peace in Kosovo in the coming days. Thaci did not mention the exact date of the independence declaration, but added that independence was already a “done deal” and that the Kosovo institutions would fulfill their constitutional obligations.
