Now a statement from the embassy said that Washington congratulated Tadic, and commended the citizens for the huge turnout and the free, fair and democratic elections. "The Serbian people have clearly chosen the path that will lead Serbia toward integration into the institutions of the west where it belongs. President Tadic promised voters a European future for Serbia," the statement reminded. "The United States will work with President Tadic and the Serbian people to see Serbia firmly set on the path to prosperity, enjoying a market-oriented economy, and guided by the rule of law," the embassy added. "We are confident that the democratic spirit awakened on October 5, 2000 and reinvigorated on February 3, 2008 is alive in Serbia today, and we are determined to remain engaged with reformers to help realize this vision. We look forward to continuing our efforts to build a productive relationship with Serbia," the statement concluded.

Incumbent Boris Tadić (DS), won his second term in office after defeating Tomislav Nikolić, (SRS).

Now a statement from the embassy said that Washington congratulated Tadić, and commended the citizens for the huge turnout and the free, fair and democratic elections.

"The Serbian people have clearly chosen the path that will lead Serbia toward integration into the institutions of the west where it belongs. President Tadić promised voters a European future for Serbia," the statement reminded.
