The most serious incident at the polling stations today was reported in Trgoviste, southern Serbia. Miodrag Popovic, municipal authority vice-president from the ranks of the Radical (SRS), and the deputy chairman of the local board of the Democratic Party (DS), Vojislav Nedeljkovic, were involved in a brawl this morning. Radical, Democrat engage in fist fight Police in Trgoviste confirmed for Beta news agency that both parties have reported the incident, at the same time requesting that officers intervene. Nedeljkovic told reporters that Popovic assaulted him for no reason, hurling invectives his way. "Among other things, he told me, 'get out of here, you scumbag', and then, 'do you want me to beat the living daylights out of you", and the like," the DS official said. As for Popovic, he steered clear of journalists, but his Radicals said the incident did take place. The SRS office in nearby Vranje implicitly confirmed that their member had assaulted his local political rival in the street, but said this was because "Nedeljkovic was distributing propaganda material." "Popovic found Nedeljkovic distributing propaganda in the street, stopped his vehicle, snatched the flyers from him, and warned him not to show up again," the Radicals said. Serbian voters are today choosing the next president in the run-off between Boris Tadic (DS) and Tomislav Nikolic (SRS).
