"Kosovo has to be united and only together, united, can we secure a safe and better future for us all. I shall never accept Kosovo's independence," said Tadic. He added that he would not push the country into wars, but that he would search for a peaceful solution through negotiations. The Democratic Party (DS) presidential candidate stressed that he was responsible for people’s lives, because the interests of the state had to be the interests of every individual. “We won’t give up on our people and our Kosovo, and I’ll do everything for us to exist here and for Serbia to exist here,” said Tadic. As far as the EU mission to Kosovo was concerned, he said that all those who wanted to come to the province to bring safety and security could only do so “through the UN Security Council.” Thanking the Serbs in Cernica for their welcome, the president said: “Thank you for everything, for dancing, for singing the national anthem, for being happy, and for wearing our national dress.” Addressing children he had first spoken to in 2005, Tadic remarked,”Your shoes are too small, you’ve grown.” The president thanked Slobodanka Tasic for her sincere letter that he had read out at the last session of the UN Security Council, and presented her with a book by his favorite author, Milos Crnjanski, saying, “Serbia lives on in Kosovo through you.” He handed the children other gifts, including laptops, balls and strips, and played basketball with them. Tadic also visited the grave of Milos Petrovic, who was killed in a bomb blast, aged only 4. Tadic at Milos Petrovic's grave (Tanjug)
