Leading political analyst Ivan Vejvoda has underlined the significance of the EU's proposed transitional agreement. According to the head of the Balkan Fund for Democracy, it confirms the EU’s political will to include the west Balkans and Serbia in its plans. "Transitional agreement important step to EU" “This is a very important step in that direction and for our hopes of the Stabilization and Association Agreement being signed very soon after the presidential elections, provided the necessary conditions are met,” he told B92’s Kaziprst program. Vejvoda said that the agreement was proof of the EU’s interests in the western Balkans, and Serbia as a key country in the region, being stable and being a part of the European peace project. The analyst said that a month ago, it had been realistic to expect Serbia to sign the SAA on January 28 as the good will had been there, but a series of incidents and negative signals towards the EU given off by the Democratic Party of Serbia had scuppered those plans. He stressed that the EU was waiting to see which path Serbia would choose at the second round of the presidential vote on February 3.
