Slobodan Samardzic and Aleksandar Popovic yesterday visited a number of places in Kosovo - Ranilug, Vrbovac, Strpce and Kosovska Mitrovica. Ministers continue Kosovo visit They announced that serious talks were in progress over the construction of a mini hydro-electric station in the Strpce region that would produce some 10 million kilowatt hours per year. Such a power station could cut by half overall electrical energy consumption in the municipality. Popovic said that during the next week, Belgrade would offer UNMIK an agreement whereby the enclave south of the Ibar river would receive a regular supply of electricity from February 1. Earlier, the government delegation had attended a ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of a nursery in Ranilug, as well as the opening of a Philosophy Faculty building in Kosovska Mitrovica whose construction was financed by the Kosovo Ministry. The two ministers also visited Vrbovac where a House of Culture and another nursery are being built. Samardzic said that his ministry had serious plans to invest in the region. “This can be seen from the National Investment Plan funds that really are big, and several hundred projects for Kosovo have already been approved, and can also be seen from the regular ongoing investments being carried out by the Kosovo Ministry,” explained the minister. Minister without Portfolio Dragan Djilas, who is also responsible for implementation of the National Investment Plan, and Samardzic attended a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of a sports center to be built in Leposavic, for which EUR 1.25mn has been allocated. According to Leposavic Municipal President Velimir Bojovic, locals have been waiting 40 years for such a facility, and the last attempt at construction took place 20 years ago. “If we’d had a center like that, the Ibar handball club that enjoyed success all over the former Yugoslavia would never have gone to the wall. In Leposavic, Djilas said that EUR 16.2mn had been allocated to Kosovo from this year’s NIP, adding that infrastructure would be the greatest beneficiary. He added that houses and flats were also being built in Gracanica, flats in Kosovska Kamenica, Zubin Potok, Orahovac and other municipalities, while further funds were being invested in schools, ambulances and hospitals, roads, and cultural and sporting complexes.
