Koha Ditore says the date for Kosovo's declaration of independence will be set in Brussels on Jan. 23-24. The Albanian-language daily quotes its unnamed sources with the European Union in Brussels as saying that Pristina will "harmonize the date for its declaration of independence" as Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci meets with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and high NATO officials next week. Pristina paper: Independence in February, or March "In principle," the daily quotes its anonymous source," the date for the declaration of Kosovo's independence was discussed at the seat of the UN in New York, during the Kosovo prime minister's visit and meetings he had with U.S. Kosovo envoy Frank Wisner and EU ambassadors at the UN." Koha Ditore then draws the conclusion that based on all this, Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence will not happen in February. "There are chances that the date will be linked to March this year. It seems that the relation between Kosovo's declaration of independence and the Serbian elections is gaining more arguments, although at first this was only an idea. But let's see what happens in Brussels," the paper quoted its source. On the other hand, Koha Ditore repots, Pristina "has the green light from the [U.S.] State Department and several European countries to go ahead and declare independence in February." "The Kosovo assembly will convene on February 6 for a regular session, and chances are high that the date will be announced then," the newspaper concludes its speculation.
