Boris Tadic says that if Tomislav Nikolic is elected president, Serbia will return to isolation. The prowestern incumbent president and Democratic Party candidate said that the coming elections were dangerous because of the possibility that Serbia could throw away everything it had begun in 2000. Tadic: Nikolic victory leads to isolation “Every election is an uncertain political game. It is the same everywhere, but here there is also the risk of a return of the old guard that led Serbia into conflicts and isolation during the 90s, who lifted the barriers of the Drina and led the citizens into turmoil and uncertainty,” Tadic told Frankfurt daily Novosti. “However, I am certain that the citizens will not allow this and that they will vote for stability and economic progress, for a better life for their families,” Tadic said. He said that he had talked with many people from all over Serbia over the last few days and that they had all said that, despite the hardships, they still supported a continuation of the path started by the democratic changes of October 2000. “Death, chaos, persecution of those with different opinions and different names, queues at the petrol station – we lived through all of this and it should never happen again,” Tadic warned. Asked who he expected support from in the second round of elections, Tadic said that he cared only about the support of the people, regardless of nationality, religion or political affiliation.
