The dailies are today once again dedicating the most space to Kosovo, and economy. ALO—"Fired", the article says that one in four workers in Serbia was left jobless through decisions taken by employers last year. Press: Kosovo actions plan, Putin letter "They only pray to God before elections", claims another headline, while the story says presidential candidates in the Jan. 20 ballot are abusing religion for their campaign purposes. "Jose Carreras in Belgrade after all", the daily brings good news as it announces the opera star's concert in the capital. BLIC—"Old people die of hunger and cold", says the shocking front page, while the article claims as many as 12 percent of Serbians over 70 years of age have no regular income. "Nikolic advised not to mention Seselj", the article explores what is already customary behavior the Radicals adopt in election campaigns, but the daily says the advice came from "U.S. lobbyists". A five-year-old fell into a well, the newspaper says, but survived: "Boy survives fall into 10 meter deep well". BORBA—"The action plan's secret", is about yesterday's government session that adopted its action plan, to be activated in case of a unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence; the document, however, remains state secret. "Zepter buys IMT" looks at the likely buyer of IMT, the tractor and industrial machinery factory. VECERNJE NOVOSTI—Russian President Vladimir Putin's birthday message to his Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic, only days ahead of the presidential election in this country, is quoted in, "Key partners". As for green market prices this winter, another front page headline says, "Cold weather hikes prices". Minister Dragan Djilas, of Tadic's Democrats (DS), is interviewed by the newspaper: "Elections like referendum". GAZETA—"New Year's baby scam", is a curious piece about alleged lengths that expecting mothers in Belgrade were willing to go to in order to have their babies be the first born in 2008, and collect appropriate awards. Not only did the doctors perform Caesarean sections before due time, but they cashed in as well, says the daily, reporting on what the media may soon dub, the Baby Mafia. On a lighter note, former Bosniak, now Serbian film director, Emir Kusturica, has organized a film festival on top of a western Serbian mountain, Mokra Gora, where he also owns an ethno village: "Kusta buries Bruce Willis", the report from the opening says for some reason. GLAS JAVNOSTI—"Pensions closer to wages", is about the long overdue decision to respect the law and harmonize pensions, the value of which has fallen behind in the past couple of years, with salaries. "Gazprom offer, take it or leave it", the daily also says on the front page, about the Russian oil giant's bid to acquire NIS. Euroaxis Bank saga continues in the newspaper's pages, as it today reports: "Billions of dollars in diplomatic pouches". DANAS—Kosovo issues are reported under, "Government action plan and criticism of a Kosovo mission." "Serbia is Russia's key partner", the daily quotes from Putin's letter to Tadic. KURIR—Another paper that has earnestly picked up on the Euroaxis story, today running it under the headline, "Robbery". Now the tabloid claims that not only Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic, but also the brother of his party colleague and NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic, Branko Jelasic, was involved in alleged wrongdoing. "Boris Tadic's life threatened" is another headline, about the circumstances under which 10 VS Cobra troops were removed from the president's security. POLITIKA—"State secret of the highest order," is about the Kosovo action plan. "Ramovic: We are not Wahhabis, but true Muslims," reports from the trial of the 15 Sandzak Wahhabis, charged with terrorism, that opened in Belgrade yesterday. "Kustendorf kicks off", is about Kusturica's Mokra Gora film festival. PRESS—Yet another tabloid has Dinkic in its sights today, this time speculating about a cabinet reshuffle in, "Dinkic on his way out from government?" The article claims that Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica would rather drop G17 Plus, and team up with the Socialists (SPS). "Putin backs Tadic", the paper interprets the birthday letter.
