The Bosnian prosecutor’s office is investigating 42 people suspected of aiding indicted war criminals.

The Bosnian prosecutor’s office is investigating 42 people suspected of aiding indicted war criminals. The list of suspects includes former deputy chief of the Republic of Srpska State Security Center Ljuban Ecim, and members of Radovan Karadzic's family. Bosnia probes suspected war criminal helpers According to Banja Luka daily Nezavisne Novine, Ecim, who was recently arrested in Belgrade on drug smuggling charges, is suspected of being one of the main characters in the network of helpers aiding Karadzic and other indictees in their hiding. Ecim is on the European Union and United State’s black list, which includes all persons suspected of helping and financing Hague indictees. The prosecutor’s office, according to the daily, has also opened investigations against the family members of Hague indictee Goran Hadzic - Milovan Bjelica, Goranka, Ivan, Srecko and Zivko Hadzic, and Radovan Karadzic’s family members Aleksandar, Sonja, Ljiljana and Luka Karadzic, former Republic of Srpska Interior Minister Dragan Kijac, de-mining company owner Radomir Kojic, and wartime Republic of Srpska police chief Tomislav Kovac. Wartime Republic of Srpska Justice Minister Momcilo Mandic is also under investigation, as well as Ratko Mladic’s family members - Biljana, Bosiljka and Darko Mladic, former Bosnia-Herzegovina parliamentary official Mirko Sarovic, and former Republic of Srpska Finance Minister Milenko Vracar. Hague indictee Stojan Zupljanin’s family is also being investigated - Divna, Mladen, Pavle and Slobodan Zupljanin, as well as Milan Ninkovic, Velibor and Zoran Ostojic, Petko Pavlovic, Cedomir Popovic, Branislav Puhalo, Milorad Malic, Predrag Kujundzic, Predrag Jovicic, Dragomir Keserovic, Branko Ratic, Milan Zogovic, Milomir Malis, Milorad Bilbija and Mrksa Skocajic. The list of suspected helpers was created by the Council of Europe while the Bosnia-Herzegovina Ministerial Council adopted a regulation in August 2007 regarding measures for effectively implementing the Hague Tribunal’s mandate, obligating Bosnian officials, especially customs workers, to stop the entrance or transit of anyone associated with helping Hague indictees.
