Local elections likely on May 11

Lawmakers accepted to adopt local elections legislation in an urgent procedure as they held a parliament session yesterday. Electoral legislation envisages that local elections be held according to the proportional system, and for mayors and municipal chiefs to be appointed from among the deputies of city or municipal assemblies, Beta reported. He said he hoped parliament will be able to pass these laws by midnight on December 29, and that it will be possible for the elections to be scheduled.
