Parliamentary Speaker Oliver Dulic announced that the parliamentary session on Kosovo would take place on December 28. “I’ve spoken with Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardzic, who on Monday will begin formulating the text of a resolution with party leaders, and that should be the last session of the year,” Dulic told Tanjug. Kosovo session scheduled for Dec. 28 The majority of parliamentary representatives agreed that the new resolution should define the country’s next moves, insisting on the preservation of sovereignty, and that as high a degree of consensus should be reached over the contents as possible. Democratic Party (DS) spokewoman Jelena Markovic said that the new Kosovo resolution should define the further course of the negotiating process which Serbia supports, as well as further appearances by the state negotiating team. G17 Plus member Zeljko Ivanji told Tanjug that the resolution should contain a provision that any act passed outwith the Security Council would be null and void, as would be unilateral recognitions of independence by any country. Serb Radical Party leader Tomislav Nikolic said that the resolution due to be adopted must include political and diplomatic protection of Serbia’s sovereignty. “Political and diplomatic protection of Serbia’s sovereignty must be included within the resolution, as we won’t accept them telling us that independence hasn’t been declared yet. Assume it’s been declared, and all Serbia’s citizens must face that fact,” said Nikolic. Socialist Party of Serbia Vice-President Zarko Obradovic said the resolution should contain reference to which international documents Serbia was calling on, and measures that the state had at its disposal in defending its territory. “The strongest argument of that resolution will be made with as high a number of votes as possible, and if we can reach a consensus over its contents,” said Obradovic. Liberal Democratic Party MP Vladan Batic said that it was the height of irresponsibility the fact that the negotiating team had not submitted its report to parliament, and that the Kosovo Parliamentary Committee had not convened for over a month. The session on Kosovo will be held in the National Parliament building. Dulic said he hoped that the government would send the necessary laws for calling local elections for parliamentary procedure on Monday, and that they would be debated on Wednesday and Thursday.
