The Democratic Party (DS) launched President Boris Tadic’s re-election campaign with a convention in Novi Sad. DS Vice-President and President of the Vojvodina Executive Committee Bojan Pajtic called on all citizens to vote at the January 20 ballot and to vote for the Democratic candidate. Before a packed SPENS Hall in Novi Sad, Tadic said that Serbia would be a European country, as it had always been so. The president stressed that Serbia had already said “no” to a policy of war and murder, and had chosen a peaceful future. He said that Serbia required a series of victories – in talks on Kosovo’s future status, in European integration, and in combating poverty and corruption. “We need to beat the nineties and the decisions someone else took on our behalf during those accursed nineties, but we also need to beat ourselves,” urged Tadic. “No country in Europe is facing such challenges, no leadership in Europe faces such challenges, but we won’t give up, we must be ready to make decisions where we take into account the future of every person in this country. We will never wage wars that will threaten other nations and people,” promised the president. Dodik said that cooperation between the RS and Serbia had never been better, and that the incumbent president was the only one who could have a positive bearing on the Kosovo talks. The RS prime minister said that Radicals in the entity were in the minority. “That’s why I’m here today to say to all my countrymen from Krajina and the RS. The Radicals are in the past. They’re a marginal political group. We’ve decontaminated Radicals from our political territory,” he said. Also present at yesterday’s rally were Sandzak Democratic Party President Rasim Ljajic, Atelje 212 Theatre Director Svetozar Cvetkovic, singer Djordje Balasevic, while G17 Plus flags could also been seen in the crowd.
