28.2 percent of citizens support Serbia’s full European integration, according to a Gallup poll. This implies Serbian membership of the EU, NATO and the Partnership for Peace. Gallup poll: 28 percent for full integration The poll shows that 10.8 percent of citizens oppose any kind of integration. According to the survey, carried out for the Serbian Atlantic Council, 31 percent support political, but not military integration – that is to say, they support EU membership, but oppose joining NATO or the Partnership for Peace program. 69 percent are in favor of EU membership, 16 percent against, while 15 percent are undecided. Membership of the Partnership for Peace is backed by 48 percent, 32 percent are against, with 20 percent undecided. NATO support is lowest, at only 28 percent. 55 percent oppose NATO membership, with 17 percent undecided. Support for integration has varied over the last few years depending on pressure on Serbia from the international community and on internal political stability, explains Medium Gallup Director Srbobran Brankovic. Brankovic says that, over the last two years, support for the EU has fluctuated between 57 and 76 percent. Support for NATO membership has been between 22 and 32 percent. Although citizens generally expressed strong support for integration, few knew much of the processes involved and were unable to answer questions relating to the matter. The poll was carried out in September and involved direct interviews with sample of 1000 respondents.
