The government has received a proposal on how to act in case Kosovo declares unilateral independence. This emerged in parliament Tuesday, when Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic confirmed that his ministry sent the draft, dubbed Action Plan, that include severing of diplomatic relations with countries that would move to recognize the province. Belgrade considers seven levels of measures It was the Serb Radical Party (SRS) deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic who posed the question to Jeremic during a session today, who then answered that the proposed measures are "within the spectrum from very soft to very hard, in the area of diplomacy". The hardest measure envisaged is breaking off of diplomatic relations with states that violate the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, the minister explained. But Jeremic added that the severing of diplomatic ties is "within the domain of state secrets", and explained that he "could not speak in public, in parliament, about that". He described "doing nothing" as "the softest measure" the Serbian government is currently considering, which is then followed by "seven levels of reaction between the hardest and the softest measure". The foreign minister however added he hoped these measures will not need to be adopted or implemented, as Belgrade still hopes for a compromise solution acceptable to both sides in the Kosovo status dispute. Jeremic also announced he will be on a one-day visit to the United Kingdom on Wednesday, for a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband. Jeremic will then proceed to the United States, where a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is scheduled for Thursday. Meetings with the UN Security Council member-state ambassadors are also planned, according to the MFA. Belgrade measures include doing nothing, and seven other levels: Jeremic (FoNet)
