The prosecution did not raise any objection. Delic’s trial began on July 9 this year, and the prosecution is currently putting its case. The prosecution is expected to rest at the start of next year. In explaining its decision, the court said that the general had surrendered to the Tribunal voluntarily as soon as the indictment had been issued, that he had cooperated with the prosecution, and that the Bosnian government had given guarantees that he would comply with all the conditions set out and return to the Hague for the resumption of the trial. Delic is accused of responsibility for the murders and wounding of several captive members of the Croatian Defense Council carried out by Mujaheddin from the Bosnian Army Third Corps on June 8, 1993, the day he was appointed to the post of commander of Bosnian Army headquarters. He is charged with the brutal killings of three members of the Republic of Srpska Army, one of whom was beheaded, as well as cruel treatment of other Serb soldiers captured by Mujaheddin near Zavidovici on July 1995. Delic is also accused of the murder of around 60 Serb prisoners of war, captured on September 11, 1995, after troops under his command took Vozuca on Ozren mountain. The prisoners were taken away and were never seen again, presumed dead. According to the charges, the general is responsible for the severe harassment and rape of three Serb women in Kamenica prison camp. Delic voluntarily surrendered to the Hague Tribunal in February 2005, and during his first appearance before the court, pleaded not guilty. In May 2005, he was afforded temporary release in Sarajevo, from where he returned to Tribunal custody in Scheveningen a few days prior to the resumption of his trial.
