"Serb paramilitaries must be nipped in bud"

The deputy defense minister says the formation of paramilitary units in Serbia needs to be "nipped in the bud." Dusan Spasojevic said today that “comparisons between the self-proclaimed Czar Lazar Guard and terrorist organizations active in Kosovo were inappropriate,“ though Serbia had to preempt and outlaw the formation of any kind of paramilitary groups. Such groups should be stopped and nipped in the bud,“ stressed Spasojevic, adding that this was a matter for the Interior, as opposed to the Defense Ministry State Secretary for the Kosovo Ministry Dusan Prorokovic surmised that the appearance of the Czar Lazar Guard was a “nice excuse“ for those who wanted to play down the threat of armed groups of Kosovo Albanians and show that an extremist element existed in Serbia too. “We should first see how many members the Guard has and what, if anything, they can do,“ said Prorokovic at a rally, entitled “Serbia (doesn’t) needs NATO.“
