Another 28 hepatitis A cases have been reported in Nis over the last 24 hours. The number of cases has now reached a total of some 500, the Nis Infection Clinic told the Beta news agency. Another 28 hepatitis cases in Nis Doctors say that they are encouraged by the fact that the number of new patients is falling. Last week there were about 50 new infections each day. “Number have begun to fall but this will take a while because of the long incubation period,” Director of the Infection Clinic Zarko Rankovic said. In the last 24 hours, five patients have been kept at the clinic for observation, and there is now a total of 40 hepatitis A patients at the clinic. Experts say that the cause of the epidemic is hard to pinpoint due to the disease's long incubation period. Because of the long incubation period, the epidemic is expected to last until the New Year.
