Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic said Saturday he expects Serbia will be able to sign the SAA with the EU in late January. By that time, Belgrade will "prove that it is fully cooperating with the [Hague] war crimes tribunal," which will no longer be an obstacle for the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), initialed in Brussels on Monday. Djelic hopes for January SAA signing "No one likes conditions and I think that everyone is fed up with them. But I am a responsible person and want to tell citizens that conditions will not go away," Djelic told reporters in Belgrade and reminded that the arrest of Ratko Mladic was one such condition. The deputy prime minister added there was an operational team "tracking down indicted war crime suspects," including a representative of the the Hague Tribunal, and added that the country was doing "everything in its power to complete cooperation with the Tribunal." Djelic was one of cabinet ministers who interacted with citizens in Belgrade Saturday, in a bid to explain the significance of the SAA, its impact on the quality of their lives, and promote the European integrations idea. Meanwhile, Serbian War Crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic has said that he would "resign his post in the action team" unless indicted war crimes suspect Ratko Maldic is arrested soon. Prosecutor Vukcevic told Sarajevo Dnevni Avaz newspaper, in an interview released on Saturday, that the Republic of Srpska Army (VRS) war time commander "must go to the Hague" and pointed out "he would not allow the future of Serbia be jeopardized" because of Mladic and the other indicted war crime suspects. "It is my job to do everything to make sure those who are most responsible for war crimes are brought to justice," he said. Vukcevic underlined that Mladic had to be extradited because be inflicted "great moral damage to the Serbian people."
