Belgrade's latest initiative in the Kosovo status talks has been explained by the Serbian ambassador to Beijing. The so-called Hong Kong model idea, introduced during the last round of Kosovo status negotiations mediated by The Contact Group Troika in Vienna, will make sure there are no winners and losers in the process, Miomir Udovicki says. Serbia talks Hong Kong model in – Hong Kong "Serbia advocates true compromise and a solution to the future status of Kosovo and Metohija that will be without winners and losers. Therefore we have looked at many similar situations, among them that of 'one country two systems'." "This model precisely demonstrates that it is possible to overcome great differences when there's good will to find a compromise," the ambassador, speaking in Hong Kong, said. He added that the model also shows Belgrade's "essential autonomy" idea is a concept viable in real life. Udovicki reiterated the Serbian authorities' position that deadlines should not be imposed on the current negotiating process. "Many other problems are sought to be resolved patiently for decades, without prejudging deadlines, such as those in the Middle East or the Korean peninsula," the Serbian ambassador to China said.
