International forces in Kosovo must prepare for any outcome of the status talks, UNMIK chief Joachim Ruecker says. Reucker was speaking in a news conference Pristina earlier Wednesday when he said that UNMIK supports the Kosovo negotiating process, but is also urging the international forces in the province to ready "for other possibilities if there is no agreement." Ruecker: UNMIK, KFOR prepare for Dec. 10 He added that the UN Mission supported the work of the international Contact Group's mediation Troika, that it had faith in the mediators, and hoped the talks will yield results. "But we also need to prepare for other possibilities if there is no agreement," Ruecker said, at the same time declining to specify what those possibilities might be. The German diplomat in charge of the civilian part of the international mission in Kosovo said that Kosovo police and KFOR were "ready to guarantee security in regardless of what will happen." He called on the Kosovo Serbs to participate in the upcoming elections, claiming that only in that way they can realize their interests. Ruecker said that preparations for the November 17 ballot in the province were proceeding according to plan, but he cited as a problem the calls coming from Belgrade for Serbs not to participate in the elections, and added that the Serbs who have registered their participation in the election were now "exposed to threats". He also declined to comment on announcements made in some media that UN internal control had started an investigation against him. "You should ask New York about that," Ruecker briefly replied.
