The Vojvodina provincial assembly president says "disparaging" Vojvodina could lead to "great dissatisfaction." "I wish that Vojvodina never arrived at a point where it has to reconsider whether or not it will be a part of Serbia. However, Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and his cabinet need to be aware of the fact that Vojvodina is a part of the state with equal rights, and that its residents need to be taken into consideration," Bojan Kostres told yesterday's daily Dnevnik. Kostres: Don't disparage Vojvodina The League of Vojvodina Social Democrats official also added that a huge majority of those living in Vojvodina "deeply feel Serbia as their state" but that the authorities in Belgrade ought not to "abuse this". The government could easily counter all the criticism against it in a simple way, Kostres told the newspaper, by "returning Vojvodina's assets, in other words, NIS, railways, roads, Elektrovojvodina [power company]." "On the other hand, the Serbian government must stop the plundering of the province via concessions and other forms of abuse, that are today exhausting it," Kostres, a vocal critic of the Horgos – Pozega concession deal, said. He added he invested "great effort and energy" to show Kostunica and his associates that Vojvodina is a part of Serbia and that they cannot treat it "like a colony they won or a storage facility that they take things from without putting anything inside." "Serbia is our state, but the fact that Vojvodina and its rights are disparaged could lead to great dissatisfaction," Kostres concluded.
