Belgrade and Novi Sad police in a synchronized action arrested three persons suspected of hijacking a truck on Friday. S.S., 33, D.M., 35, and A.B., 32, all from Belgrade, were detained Saturday on suspicion of having committed the crime. They will be brought before an investigative judge in Novi Sad, the Serbian MUP said in a statement. Police arrest three over robbery The statement adds that the suspects, driving a car with police license plates and rotating lights, around 3 p.m. Friday blocked the way of a truck containing large amounts of cigarettes and cell phone cards worth EUR 700,000 in total. After stopping the truck, the suspects assaulted the driver, pulled him out of the vehicle and forced into their car, driving him off in the direction of the Dolma village where they blindfolded him and tied him to a tree. The driver managed to break free after three hours and inform the police of what had happened. License plates and rotating lights were stolen from a police vehicle in Belgrade, according to the statement. The suspects were arrested in the Ripanj settlement outside the capital while unloading the freight form the truck. One person managed to escape the arrest and police are currently tracking him down.
