Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic launched a public debate on drafting Serbia’s Sustainable Development Strategy. Djelic was in Sombor yesterday to mark the beginning of a campaign named “Sustainable Way Forward”, organized with assistance from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Djelic on sustainable development The debate will be carried out in sixteen towns in Serbia in October and November, as Djelic’s office looks to introduce the citizens to the draft. “The aim of the campaign is to engage people to take an active part in finalizing the draft by means of public debates and via the internet,” a statement from Djelic’s cabinet said. “Active participation, non-governmental organizations and local authorities are of essential importance not only for the completion of the document, but for its subsequent implementation in the political and economic life of Serbia,” the statement said. Once the strategy is adopted, Serbia will have acquired the means to harmonize its economic development with social and environmental issues.

The debate will be carried out in sixteen towns in Serbia in October and November, as Đelić’s office looks to introduce the citizens to the draft.
