Belgrade is ready to make major concessions to Kosovo Albanians, but will not negotiate its sovereignty, Vuk Jeremic says. “We cannot negotiate away our sovereignty over Kosovo but everything else is subject to negotiations,” the foreign minister told the Associated Press in New York Wednesday. "Serbia ready for major concessions" “What Serbia is offering is a comprehensive plan for substantial autonomy [which] is tantamount to unimpeded exercise of governance on behalf of the Pristina institutions,” added the foreign minister, who is taking part in the work of the UN General Assembly. According to the agency, Jeremic hinted that Belgrade could be willing to remove "a key stumbling block" by "giving up its demand for control over Kosovo borders." Asked whether the government in Belgrade would maintain its stance over Kosovo's borders with Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia, Jeremic replied: "We are proposing that the international community ... and its security function stay there." “Our platform is to do with very, very wide self-governance for the province. What we are proposing is that Belgrade keeps a few 'reserved powers,' a very few sovereign prerogatives that define the sovereignty of a state," Jeremic said. Vuk Jeremic (Beta, archive)
