The Vatican advocates a Kosovo solution to be defined within the UN Security Council, Vuk Jeremic says. The foreign minister's comments came late Tuesday, following a meeting with Vatican Under-Secretary for Relations with States, Monsignor Pietro Parolin. Jeremic: Vatican favors Kosovo deal within UN SC The foreign ministers of Hungary and Malta, Kinga Goncz and Michael Frendo, also backed the stand that issue be resolved in scope of the UN and in a manner acceptable to both sides, Jeremic said. He once again reminded that Serbia viewed Kosovo's independence as unacceptable, and that the solution for the status of the province should be sought in a compromise satisfactory to Belgrade and Pristina. Also in New York, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha met U.S. President George Bush, to emerge from the meeting telling reporters that Washington supported Kosovo's independence. Albanian news agency ATA reported that Berisha said "Bush assured him of his full support for Kosovo's independence." "Kosovo resolution must not set precedent" Meanwhile, another reaction to the ongoing Kosovo status crisis came from a neighboring country, Romania. Romanian President Traian Basescu has said that Bucharest was interested in a Kosovo solution that brings stability and prevents the setting of a precedent for frozen conflicts in the region. Basescu was referring to the frozen conflicts in Moldova and Georgia, the Romanian National News Agency Rompres reported. At the Tuesday session of the Romanian Supreme Defense Council, President Basescu urged the members of the Council and Government to strictly adhere to Bucharest's position regarding Kosovo.
