The U.S. ambassador to Serbia says Washington will accept any Kosovo agreement reached by both sides. Cameron Munter said that an agreed solution on the future of the province would be best, but pointed that, otherwise, one option is the Ahtisaari plan on supervised independence. U.S. ambassador: We will support any agreement “If Belgrade and Pristina arrive at any sort of compromise, that would be the best solution for all and we would surely support it." "Our favored solution is the Ahtisaari plan, but we would prefer if both sides could agree on an outcome by themselves,” Munter told the daily Blic on Monday. He added that partition of Kosovo was off the table, stressing however, that the United States would support any agreement. “I repeat, we see supervised independence as the fairest and best solution, and that is why we are saying that the Ahtisaari plan is one of the options, but we insist that the Contact Group Troika is not imposing it on any side." "Both Belgrade and Pristina should come to an agreement, and the EU, Russia and U.S. are there to help,” Munter argued. Commenting on announcements coming from Pristina about a unilateral proclamation of independence after December 10, the U.S. ambassador said it was too early to guess what might happen in December. “We fully support the negotiating process and believe compromise to be the best for all. If we said now what would happen after December 10, we would be prejudicing the outcome, which is not our intention,” concluded Munter. Cameron Munter (FoNet, archive)
