The Red Cross reports that 17,882 people are still listed as missing following the wars in the ex-Yugoslavia.

The Red Cross reports that 17,882 people are still listed as missing following the wars in the ex-Yugoslavia. To mark tomorrow’s Day of the Disappeared, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has released statistics from July of this year, showing that 13,449 people are listed missing in Bosnia and Hercegovina, 2,386 in Croatia and 2,047 in Kosovo, which makes 17,882 unsolved cases altogether. 17,782 people missing from 1990s wars Head of the regional ICRC mission in Belgrade Paul Henri Arny said that, "For years, the ICRC has been trying to support calls from the families of the missing, in the hope of generating a greater response concerning the fate of their loved ones." In the absence of any proof as to the fate of their missing relatives, families have been left in a hopeless situation and it is of the utmost importance that, according to him, more time is devoted to the question of missing persons, and that moreover the families’ right to know the fate of their loved ones is supported in practice.
