A day before new Kosovo negotiations begin, the Contact Group is holding an expert level meeting in Vienna. According to unofficial sources, the experts will discuss recent activities in the process of finding a status solution for Kosovo, as well as the possibility of establishing direct talks between Belgrade and Pristina to find a compromise. Contact Group experts discuss Kosovo As for the talks between the Troika of international envoys and the Serbian and Albanian sides, Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardzic said that the Troika had approved Belgrade’s suggestion to focus primarily on the status issue. “At this moment it is important for the Troika to put the province’s status on the agenda, because that is what we asked for,” Samardzic told the Beta news agency, stressing that the agenda had arrived in Belgrade today, and described it as "satisfactory and encouraging". The negotiations are expected to start with meetings between the Troika, made up of U.S. representative Frank Wisner, Russian Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko and the EU's Wolfgang Ischinger, together with Pristina’s status delegation on August 30.
