No extraordinary measures have been introduced in southern Serbia after seven inmates escaped from a Kosovo prison last week. The Coordinating Body for Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja dismissed media speculations that members of security forcers patrolling the administrative line between Serbia proper and Kosovo were given orders to shoot at anyone attempting to cross the border bearing weapons. No new security measures in south Some media outlets have said the measure was introduced for fear that seven runaway inmates that managed to break out of the Dubrava prison near Istok in Kosovo, might try to enter the Bujanovac municipality. However, Nenad Djurdjevic, the new director of the Coordinating Body, told B92 that no additional measures were undertaken, besides increased vigilance. “To our knowledge, no new measures have been called for. All we did is increase patrols along the administrative line, extending communication with the UNMIK police and KFOR,” he said. “There is no mention of any other measures whatsoever. We also asked that KFOR and UNMIK police to, on their part, increase security and supervisory actions in the aftermath of the escape,” Djurdjevic added. Montenegrin border police have boosted patrols of that country-s state borders with Kosovo in the aftermath of the high profile prison breakout, a spokesperson for Montengro’s police told FoNet news agency.
