Defending champions, Red Star, gave new manager Milorad Kosanovic his first victory with a nervy 1-0 home win against Smederevo. In front of a crowd of 5,000, Ognjen Koroman, the club’s one bright spot in a hitherto troubled season, scored the winner three minutes before the interval, latching onto an incisive pass from Lukas, beating one defender, and slotting home. MSL: First win for Red Star The game was one of six played over the weekend in the Meridijan Superliga (MSL) second round of the season. Although the champions looked more confident than in previous outings, it's unlikely that their front line will be giving the Rangers rearguard many sleepless nights in the build-up to the crucial second-leg Champions League qualifier at the Marakana a week tomorrow. Partizan, meanwhile, continued their flying start to the season with a comfortable 3-0 away win at newly-promoted Cukaricki. Moreira opened the scoring in the 24th minute, Montenegrin international Jovetic added a second four minutes later, with Lazetic grabbing a third in injury time, just moments after coming on as a substitute. Red Star coach Milorad Kosanovic (Beta) Having now started their campaign with 4 straight wins, scoring 15 goals in the process and conceding only one, the Gravediggers, as the team are known among the fans, are now seen as favorites in many quarters to regain the title they last won in 2005. OFK Belgrade continued their almost traditional strong start with a hard-fought 2-0 home win against Borac. Whether they can turn this confident start into a sustained tilt at the title remains to be seen. With the current disarray at Red Star and the continuing behind-the-scenes instability at Partizan, they may never have a better opportunity. Meanwhile, in yesterday’s Vojvodina derby, there was a share of the spoils. The visitors, Banat, took the lead through a Stajkovic spot kick in the 16th minute, before the home side got back on level terms with a 58th minute Ranko Despotovic strike. In other action, Napredak captured their first MSL victory against Bezanija with a 55th minute Predrag Pavlovic goal, while in Lucani, Mladost and Hajduk ground out a bad tempered goalless draw, which saw both sides having a player sent off.
