Serbia takes over Univerziade flag

Serbia has officially become an organizer of the 2009 World Summer Universtity Games. At a closing ceremony of the 2007 Univerziade in Bangkok Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic accepted the Games flag from Prime Minister of Thailand Surayut Chulanon. Serbia takes over Univerziade flag “The 2009 Univerziade will be the biggest sports event ever organized in Serbia, which is why we have to fully prepare for it,” Djelic told B92. He stressed that the preparatory work for the event has entered its final stage. “The Univerziade has cost Bangkok US$ 600mn. Since our infrastructure is somewhat more versified in comparison to that of Bangkok’s prior to the event, we believe that EUR 150mn set aside will cover all expenses,” Djelic said. According to him, the world’s elite will visit Belgrade in 2009 for the 15-day-long international sports event. “It will be a fantastic opportunity for 17,000 young athletes from all over the world to get to know our country.”
