The City of Belgrade has provided apartments for the temporary housing of teenage children without parental care.

Belgrade supports homeless children

Thus far, eleven apartments throughout Serbia have been purchased with funds from the National Investment Plan for the same purpose.

The young that are no longer eligible to remain in children’s homes and orphanages can stay in one of the six apartments in the Belgrade suburb of Čukarička Padina provided they enroll in school or find employment in the Serbian capital beforehand.

Labor Minister Rasim Ljajić said that the goal of the action is to support young adults that leave homes and other institutions within of the social protection program.

“We are preparing them for independent life. Each beneficiary can live in the apartment up to two years,“ he explained.

According to the Belgrade Center for Social Care, there are as many as 60 children waiting for this kind of support. So as to dedicate themselves to education and work they will receive financial support equaling to half the average Serbian salary each month.

Belgrade Deputy Mayor Radmila Hrustanović said that each apartment can accommodate five to six beneficiaries.
