“We expect that the final Kosovo solution will not lead to the use of military force, from any side. That is in the best interest of the ministry and the entire nation,” Šutanovac said.

Šutanovac said that Serbia has established military cooperation with NATO member countries through its contact swith the Nato-led Force in Kosovo (KFOR) in Kosovo, which he described as a useful process for both sides.

He said that the security agreement needs to be signed wih NATO as soon as possible, as it is of vital importance for the country because of the possibility of exchanging information.

“We are taking the first steps in the Partnership for Peace, and the further development of the situation will depend on us,” Šutanovac said.

NATO Director of Force Planning, Frank Boland, said that the Alliance has sincere intentions of continuing cooperation in reforms with the new Serbian Government in defence systems and that he is pleased to see progress being made in the process.

“Serbia and NATO will not always agree on things, but that does not mean that discussions of cooperation should not exist in fields in which we agree,” Boland said.
